We need YOU to become a Veteran Peer Mentor! Veterans Court (VC) is a joint effort between the James E. Van Zandt Medical Center, Veteran service organizations, and the Cambria County court system for Veterans. Veterans are referred to VC for certain non-violent offenses. If accepted into the VC program, individuals receive intensive treatment after arrest rather than punitive measures such as jail or prison time. Successful completion can lead to reduced charges or avoiding jail time altogether. What is Peer Mentoring in VC? Peer Mentors in VC are professionally trained individuals who are assigned to work with a Veteran receiving services from the VC. As coaches and advocates, Peer Mentors work closely with their Mentees to offer assistance, assess their needs, help them problem-solve, and hold them accountable to their goals. To be a Peer Mentor, you must be a Veteran.
